One thing I've learned as a professional Care Advocate is that most people become caregivers by accident.  In my world stories about 'sudden caregivers' are more common than you might think.

I meet and talk to caregivers all the time, in all sorts of situations.

Some families call from hospitals wanting advice on what to do after their loved one is discharged.  I hear from long-distance caregivers on the hunt for local services.  Others just need to talk with a Care Advocate like me because they don't know where to begin.

These stories share a common thread:  caregivers want help, advice, and someone to turn to.  That's why there's a caregiving team at AARP® Caregiving Help and Advice from Genworth.

• Make a 'Care Wish List'.  It's amazing how many families forget to make a care wish list with their loved one.  It can guide your decisions around housing, social settings, care services, and more.
• Go Local.  So many families are surprised to find they have options in their community.  When you explore your local options, finding care support services might be closer than you think.
• Keep In Touch.  Caregiving takes time, energy and commitment.  But it also takes friends, family and help from professionals when the moment calls for it.  Don't hesitate to ask for help.
